Plot: Following in the footsteps of his father Clark, the hard-working family man, Rusty Griswold, thirsts for some quality time with his wife, Debbie, and their two sons, Kevin and James. With the idea of revisiting the place of his vivid childhood memories, the exciting Walley World, keep coming to mind, Rusty decides to surprise his family with his proposal for an unforgettable trip across the country in their brand-new rented Albanian SUV. As the Griswolds hit the road for some serious family-bonding, disaster after disaster, Rusty's romantic intentions seem to go down the drain. But can some minor mishaps thwart Rusty's plans for the perfect family vacation?
Alternative Plot: Remembering fond, childhood memories of his trip to Walley World, Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) surprises his wife (Christina Applegate) and two sons with a cross-country excursion to America's favorite fun park. Following in his father's (Chevy Chase) footsteps, Rusty and the gang pack up the car and hit the road for some much-needed family bonding. Soon, the promise of fun turns into one misadventure after another for the next generation of Griswolds and anyone who encounters them.
