Plot: In the high mountains of rural Peru and the wind-swept landscapes of the Andes, the fourteen-year-old boy, Segundo, prepares to follow in his sculptor father's footsteps, and learn the traditional art of box-making. Indeed, depicting intricate religious scenes and significant everyday events on wood is a dying art; however, even though Segundo admires his father, more and more, he is feeling the heavy burden of legacy on his shoulders. Then, the accidental discovery of a well-hidden family secret will bring young Segundo face-to-face with the profoundly religious and well-knit community. Will Segundo explore the weight of heritage, discover the boundaries of love and the burdens of family expectations, as well as the complexity of accepting our parents as they are?
Alternative Plot: The life of a 14-year-old boy in an isolated Peruvian village is turned upside down when he accidentally discovers his troubled father's secret.
