Plot: Over the course of a single night, a conscientious and compassionate police officer comes face-to-face with the sleeping city's ugly facade. A runaway sister seeks shelter in a cafe for fear of her vengeful brother; a young woman with suicide on her mind; a dejected drunkard who can't live without his wife; a meek husband who never stands up for himself; a desperate family man who resorts to theft to feed his children, and, finally, a heated argument among the local tavern's regulars are just a few of the problems the indefatigable policeman has to solve. What does the next night shift have in store for the kind officer of the law?
