Every Christmas Has a Story (2016)

Plot: Kate Harper is the host of the nationally broadcast, Los Angeles based "The Morning Show with Kate Harper" for NTN News. Jack Brewster, the show's recently hired producer and showrunner, and Kate were college sweethearts when they were in the same journalism program. They have been able to have a good professional relationship despite their personal one not working out, the problem at the time being distance more than anything which led to Jack asking another woman to marry him, that marriage which has since ended. Kate's beloved status with her viewers takes a turn when a glitch leads to the accidental broadcasting of Kate making an announcement after a Christmas themed show that she doesn't like Christmas, she in the process accidentally pushing the guest, a Christmas ornament collector, to the ground, which some see, because of her statement, as being done on purpose. Because of the public backlash against Kate, Lauren Foster, a network executive, orders that Kate accept the resulting invitation of Ted Drysdale, the mayor of Hollyvale, North Dakota, to visit the town to regain the spirit of Christmas as Hollyvale promotes itself as the biggest little Christmas town in the country. Jack is to accompany her as they are to air two minute promotional segments during the week leading up to December 25 about Hollyvale and why it is the Christmas capital, Kate, in the process, who has to show the public that she has regained the spirit of Christmas. Beyond the fact that this trip to Hollyvale will replace what were to be Kate and Jack's individual Christmas vacations - Kate's to warmer climes - Kate does not much like this assignment because of that antagonism she has for Christmas, although, being the professional she is, swears that she can fake it for the cameras. Things between Kate and Jack, who wants to retain Lauren's idea for the segments in showing that Kate has the Christmas spirit, begin to diverge as Kate turns the assignment into an investigative one, as although there are the outward signs of Christmas in town, something doesn't seem quite right to her, especially with regard to everyone talking about a Christmas tree that had traditionally adorned the town square that is conspicuously missing. In the process, Kate may come to some admissions about the reason behind her feeling toward Christmas, and regain that true Christmas spirit with the unwitting and in some cases purposeful help of Jack and some others in town.
