Plot: A stranger in a Western cattle-town behaves with remarkable self-assurance, establishing himself as a man to be reckoned with. The reason appears with his stock: a herd of sheep, which he intends to graze on the range. The horrified inhabitants decide to run him out at all costs.
Alternative Plot: Sheep farmer Jason Sweet (Glenn Ford) arrives in a small Western cattle town and promptly clashes with local tough guy Jumbo McCall (Mickey Shaughnessy). He also irks Stephen Bedford (Leslie Nielsen), a wealthy cattleman, with his advances toward Bedford's girlfriend, Dell Payton (Shirley MacLaine). With the entire town in an uproar over Sweet's behavior, Bedford arranges for Chocktaw Neal (Pernell Roberts), a seasoned gunslinger, to shoot him down.
