Plot: Dutch pre-teen Finn is lovingly raised by his father, a grim lonely Carpenter, ever since his mother died on Christmas Eve giving birth to him. One thing father forbids Finn bluntly is learning to play an instrument, having given up his own musical ambitions when widowed. But Finn dreams of becoming a violinist and gets the opportunity to learn from a gifted old men, Luuk, who later turns out to be his estranged grandfather. It's truth time for all to face their past and future.
Alternative Plot: Finn, a 9-year-old boy mourning his mother's death, finds comfort playing the violin.
