Frightmare (1974)

6.2

Plot: In 1957, after escaping a well-deserved death sentence, the unhinged Dorothy Yates was committed to a mental institution for her sickening and disturbing crimes, along with her acquiescent husband, Edmund. Now, almost twenty years later, the deranged couple has settled in an isolated farmhouse somewhere in Haslemere, Surrey, where a seemingly rehabilitated Dorothy uses her peaceful maternal figure to tell the fortunes of her young and unsuspecting clientele. However, as someone keeps delivering mysterious brown-paper parcels to her, it's only natural for Dorothy to relapse into madness, aching, once more, for a blood-drenched crash-course in surgery. Is, indeed, old Dorothy back?

Alternative Plot: Two decades ago, Edmund (Rupert Davies) and Dorothy Yates (Sheila Keith) were placed in an insane asylum after it was proven they were cannibals who'd killed and eaten six people. Now they've been set free, and their put-upon daughter, Jackie (Deborah Fairfax), is beginning to suspect that they may not have been entirely reformed. As various young people start to disappear from the area around her parents' cabin, she and her boyfriend (Paul Greenwood) begin looking for evidence.
